About the federation
The Jamaica Chess Federation is the governing body for chess in Jamaica. We run the national championships, keep the ratings, train arbiters and select the teams that represent Jamaica abroad.
Our mission
To promote and develop chess in Jamaica at every level, from the first school club to the Olympiad board, and to make chess Jamaica's sport of choice.
The federation sanctions tournaments, publishes national and FIDE ratings, runs the Grand Prix and selects national teams for the Chess Olympiad, the Pan American Youth Festival and the CAC Youth Festival.
It is run by an elected council of volunteers. Clubs, schools and parish associations affiliate to the federation, and players join as members.
- 1969The Jamaica Chess Federation is founded.
- 1972Jamaica joins FIDE, the world chess federation.
- 2016The Government supports the Olympiad teams in Baku.
- 2024Both Olympiad teams win Zone 2.3.3 in Budapest.
- 2026A record 35 players travel to the Pan American Youth Festival.
